The gallery has been updated with Bluray HD screencaptures of 99 Homes in which Laura played Lynn Nash. The movie received many good reviews, some more than others but overall everyone agreed it was an intense and effective drama. If you haven’t seen it yet I strongly suggest you to, and in the meantime enjoy the pics.

A formidable actress, Laura Dern has been working in Hollywood since age 5. At 13 years old, the daughter of icons Diane Ladd and Bruce Dern became the youngest Miss Golden Globe and soon thereafter earned critical acclaim with her breakout role in Blue Velvet. The 1986 film also marked the first time Dern and director David Lynch would work together throughout her career, a pairing that continues with Twin Peaks’ celebrated return on Showtime.

Known for her highly emotive face, Dern built a diverse and award-winning career as a working actress in the decade following Blue Velvet. She starred in Wild at Heart, her first reunion with Lynch; earned her first Academy Award nomination for Rambling Rose; and found blockbuster success as Dr. Ellie Sattler in Jurassic Park. On TV, she picked up two Primetime Emmy nominations for roles in Afterburn and Fallen Angels. Then, in 1997, she played Ellen DeGeneres’ love interest in the two-part coming out episode of Ellen.

Many people thought they had “Big Little Lies” pegged after HBO aired the first episode of the limited series in February. Soapy whodunit. Bitchy behavior. Mommy wars. Privileged women. Impossibly gorgeous homes.

The series invited those judgments and then proceeded to methodically upend them, delivering a nuanced look at motherhood, domestic abuse and, yes, the ways that knee-jerk assumptions can be wrong, damaging and self-sabotaging. Ultimately, it’s about a group of women finding solace and strength in each other.

That dynamic played out among the cast, as we learn from a long conversation with “Big Little Lies” stars Nicole Kidman, Reese Witherspoon and Laura Dern. In the series, Witherspoon plays Madeline, the community’s queen bee, who clashes with Dern’s steely career mom, Renata. Kidman plays Celeste, envied, elegant, but hiding a secret life of violent abuse.

These actresses adore one another and, in between Dern and Witherspoon planning a vacation together and stories of Dern’s dad, Bruce, visiting the set (“It was a scene with a lot of profanity,” Dern remembers, laughing, “and I think he brought out the best in us”), they spoke about what made the series so special and why they’re eager to bring it back for a second season.

Laura Dern has appeared in major blockbuster hits, art house darlings and on TV. But the star who can be currently seen in the new “Twin Peaks” reboot and the forthcoming Star Wars installment “The Last Jedi” says there is still one dream role she has yet to play: Madge, the sassy manicurist from those old school Palmolive commercials.

Dern sat down with Ad Age backstage at the Cannes Lions Festival of Creativity Sunday to discuss her take on advertising today, her favorite apps and aging gracefully in Hollywood. This interview has been slightly edited for flow and readability.

Will you get to see any of the work while you’re here?
I don’t know if I’ll be able to. But I’m learning so much just getting to talk to brands and advertisers. It’s interesting to start to figure out how you can participate in the world, especially if you have a mission statement, a goal in mind, so you start to be able to invent where it is a match that also can be purposeful, be it a product you love or a cause you love.

What’s your mission statement?
I love being an actor, but as an individual and as a woman particularly who was not only raised by actresses but is an actress, I’m very excited about the paradigm shift in America, finally, about race and wisdom and sexuality being a little more like a fine wine as opposed to something that we’re supposed to hide or run from.

Laura Dern says narcissism in the acting world “can only last for so long,” and she called on the advertising world to change up press events to create a “teachable moment” where actors can discuss causes they are passionate about – rather than droning on about themselves.

The “Twin Peaks” and “Big Little Lies” star spoke in a Cannes Lions session that pitted Hollywood against the YouTube generation. She was joined on the Ketchum-hosted panel by comedian and YouTube creator Grace Helbig.

Dern said her Oscar-nominated role in the 2014 film “Wild” sparked a passion to raise awareness to fight lung cancer, as her character died from the disease. Dern said, “I was happy to do that, for me it was an act of service, a beautiful teachable moment.”

Laura Dern holds all the secrets to the year’s most anticipated entertainment, but would we rather she tell us what happens or watch a great actress go to work?

“Big Little Lies.” “Twin Peaks.” “Star Wars: The Last Jedi.”

These three projects don’t make up half of Laura Dern’s 2017 body of work, but they do represent defining moments in the year’s entertainment landscape. Few movies or TV shows have been met with as much anticipation or scrutiny, and this level of intense speculation can be tough on an actor who’s been sworn to secrecy.

“A woman came up to me and said, ‘You don’t even tell your kids what part you played? Is that painful as a mother to have to lie to your kids?’ And I got so flustered!” Dern said in a recent interview with IndieWire. “I’m not trying to hurt people by not talking about it!”

Luckily, Dern is a veteran. She’s weathered the storm of probing questions for blockbuster films like “Jurassic Park” and cult fandoms like “Enlightened.” She knows how to handle the pressure of a big budget and an equally big marketing campaign — all without lying.

“The most honest interview I could give about being part of ‘Star Wars’ is: ‘Oh my God! I’m in ‘Star Wars’!’” Dern said. “I mean, other than being on the set of ‘I Love Lucy,’ I don’t think there’s anything that made me more giddy than being part of ‘Star Wars.’ It really is like childhood play.”

“I am so lucky that I was raised by actors, because what I got used to in childhood was the ebb and flow of career,” says Laura Dern. The two-time Oscar nominee has spent her entire life on movie sets; the daughter of actors Bruce Dern and Diane Ladd, she’s worked in front of the camera for close to four decades. “There are these moments when you are working like crazy or have the opportunity to do something you’ve never done. And a time when you’re not working and you’re trying to figure out what creative passions there are in your life other than being an actor.”

Given her take on acting careers, 2017 is shaping up to be quite the tsunami, with Dern appearing in sitcoms, critically acclaimed prestige dramas, Sundance indies, a highly anticipated TV revival, and one of the biggest blockbuster franchises in Hollywood history. But whether Dern is acting in “Star Wars” for director Rian Johnson or sparring with Kristen Wiig on “The Last Man on Earth,” she’s driven by a desire to use her creative outlook to speak about life’s bigger questions. She makes this clear as she surveys her New York City hotel room after having enjoyed, as she puts it, a princess-for-a-night experience at the Met Gala the prior evening. “I feel like the good fortune of careers that are about voice is that we get the privilege of figuring out what we want to say with what we get to do. All of that keeps me going and re-energizes me in new ways depending on what’s happening in our culture.”
